So we deal with 3 dimensions: the first 2 are fairly tangible, we can touch them, resize the frame. The 3rd is more abstract. We can “see” in “3D”, but that doesn’t mean that we actually see “the” 3rd dimension. This painting defines the 3rd dimension as interstitial: The 3rd  cat is between  the 2D cats, not only positioned between but happening between the 2 cat’s moments. When we brain-merge the 2 pictures, the 3rd one is capturing the fragile instant where the cat is exactly starting to focus, like us…
