The background scene is misty and we guess that the spectators are more interesting than the spectacle. We watch the scene from a slightly elevated vantage point, which facilitates our observation. As often, the tourists sit and attend, but they are not focused and don’t really watch the scene, they watch a representation of the scene. They do that in conflicting directions, aggravating the feeling of futility.
